Mother and Child Rescue (Mama Kiganjani) Links women in labor to nearby motorcycle (boda boda) riders, ensuring fast and reliable transport from their homes to health facilities. In cases of life-threatening complications affecting newborns, the program also coordinates this emergency transportation to near health facility care.
HOW IT WORKS
Watch this video, as BAMA board member Katharina Mueller, gets a first-hand look at how Mama Rescue provides lifesaving transportation for Ugandan women in labor.
Our Impact to Date
Through the Mother Rescue (Mama Kiganjani) Program, we are transforming how women
access timely, life-saving care:
° Over 5,000 women in labor safely transported from villages to health facilities.
° Transportation time reduced dramatically from 3.5 hours to just 34 minutes.
° Decision-to-delivery interval for cesarean sections shortened from 120 minutes to 30 minutes.
Closing the Second barrier
PHBC Mother Rescue Program is designed to address the second barrier the critical challenge of reaching appropriate care in time. By combining rapid transportation with real-time communication, the program ensures that no woman is left waiting when every minute matters.
Midwives are at the heart of this system. Using the Mother Rescue platform (Mama Kiganjani), they transmit essential clinical information ahead of arrival, enabling hospitals to prepare in advance. This coordinated approach creates a seamless transition between facilities, significantly reducing delays in receiving life-saving treatment.

° Reduces preventable maternal and newborn deaths and complications
° Improves efficiency in emergency obstetric care
° Builds trust and confidence among mothers, families, and healthcare providers
Mother Rescue is not just about transport it is about delivering timely care when it matters most.
